slack11 ndiswrapper and netgear wg111v2
 

I am running Slack 11 2.4.33.3 and am trying to get my USB netgear wg 111v2 running using ndiswrapper.

I have installed ndiswrapper and loaded the drivers successfully.

running "ndiswrapper -l" I see that the "driver installed" and the "device (0846:6a00) present"

but then when I try to run " modprobe mdiswrapper" I get

/lib/modules/2.4.33.3/misc/ndiswrapper.o:
insmod /lib/modules/2.4.33.3/misc/ndiswrapper.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.33.3/misc/ndiswrapper.o:
insmod ndiswrapper failed

As I am kind of new to linux I am not sure what this is telling me other than it doesn't work. Can anyone offer any ideas on how to solve this problem?

From the ndiswrapper wiki:
"If you get "unresolved symbols", you may be using old kernel; upgrade the kernel and recompile ndiswrapper and reinstall. If you get 'loadndisdriver' failed, then you may have older version of ndiswrapper module in kernel modules directory. See Uninstall to remove all ndiswrapper files and reinistall again. See also FAQ for more details on common issues with loading ndiswrapper module."

Did you install ndiswrapper from source or use a Slackware package? If from source, was your Slackware install new, i.e., was 2.4.33 the kernel in place when you compiled & installed ndiswrapper?

I did install ndiswrapper from source, and yes my slackware 11 install was new so kernel 2.4.33.3 was in place when compiled...... should I recompile to a newer kernel?

I tried a few different drivers and seem to be getting similar errors, I think I will try upgrading kernel....... I have been avoiding it as I have never done it before. This whole wireless thing is the only thing keeping me from going linux only! So hopefully I can figure it out. I'll post back after updating my kernel and trying again.
