recommendations for ADSL/Firewall router with min. 54MBit/s

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an ADSL router with integrated firewall for WLAN at home.

Are there any recommendations from the experienced WLAN freaks? (I am definitely not a freak yet, just made 30% of the wlan quiz on this site! )

I thought I might go for a NETGEAR DG 834 GB, but have no feeling whether that would be a good buy or not. Many german providers offer now a Gigaset SIEMENS router, Lycos has a Zyxel... So many different routers and I have no feeling what I should choose...

Perhaps it is also not advisable to get a standalone solution like it is advertised?! Perhaps it makes more sense to have a seperate ADSL-modem and a good modem-less router, preferably with VPN functionality. But I guess the latter is not really necessary anymore, since the new post-WEP Wifi standards shouldn't be that liable to compromise anymore. But of course you need a wlan driver for your card which can work with WPA-PSK in this case....

OK, I hope I hear something from you folks.
And thanks in advance!

Marko :)

What do you mean?
Not to buy a ADSL router with integrated modem,
or not to by wireless equipment for home use at all?
