ralink technology Wireless card problem

Hi,

I have the above wireless nic in my Medion notebook. The manufacturers supply a Linux driver for this card which I have compiled and can load using the command /sbin/insmod rt2860sta.ko in my Fedora 9 install.

The driver loads without error. I can then /sbin/ifconfig ra0 inet 192.168.1.6 up which makes the interface active. I can see this by looking at the Network Manager applet. It states that the interface is active and it is receiving and transmitting packets. Could be from my WAP or the neighbour's WAP, I don't know.

Unfortunately I cannot get it to talk to my WAP specifically. The README_STA file that comes in the driver tarball isn't for dummies.

Has anybody here had any experience with this wireless nic or this driver that can steer me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Graeme5

What is your WAP? Is it a router? Can you connect to it with a wired connection to configure, and see the configuration parameters?

To have a look from the wireless box at what WAP's you can see, try the iwlist command, it will show you the WAP's your wireless is seeing.

Quote:
iwlist [interface] scan
You may need to use iwconfig to set up your wireless config to conned to your WAP.
