Problmes connecting to My home wireless
Hello
I am running Fedora 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L10 , it's comes with a built in IntelPro 2200 B/G wireless Adapter. The problem is the following , the computer fails to connect on to my wireless if the laptop is not near the AP , meaning so , if i am in a different room it wont work , although the signal is very strong about 86% ,windows connects easily. I tried switching to a different channel , i updated my NetworkManager , even tried wicd instead and updated my driver . but still it's the same.Any Ideas to solve the problem ? Thank you for your collaboration Take care |
Welcome to LQ!
Please post the output of iwconfig and ifconfig. |
iwconfig , ifconfig ,and iwlist
Hi ! Thanks for your reply , in the following the output of ifconfig and iwconfig and i also added the output of iwlist corresponding to my network , for a better idea.

As you can see you're card is not associated with the access point for some reason and you don't have an ip address either.
Can you post this info while you're connected? I also have this problem and I don't have any idea of how to solve it. I'm currently using wpa_supplicant to connect and it connects flawlessly nearby the access point but I can't connect in the other room for example. On windows it works, so I can't say that's hardware issue. Skuzye |
iwconfig , ifconfig
Hi!here are the output of ifconfig and iwconfig associated with my Home wifi:

This is one is without the smileys !

Signal level=-35 dBm
This tells that your signal level are weak. This means that your signal level is 10 to the power of -32. I have this problem with my laptop too and I don't know what happens because it works on windows... |
not a driver problem
Hi !
in an effort to solve our little problem , i removed the ipw2200 module from the kernel along with the driver and the ieee80211 subsytem , and then installed the latest one along the latest wireless tools i think it's version 29 , but still it's the same problem .Never the less i found that the signal level and link quality measurements are not that accurate so i thinn we just have to move every time we have to connect :) take care |
I'm going to install the most recent kernel and see what happens then I report back to you.. if you manage to go any further please let me know...

i think it's working :)
Hello !
in order to solve the problem i downloaded the latest kernel for kernel.org ,version 2.6.29.1 and installed it enabling ipw2200 support in the wi-fi section , up till now it's connecting properly and it fixed some errors i had before like , sleep and suspend ...so you could give it a try take care |
