Problem during WMP54G install under Debian Sarge

Hi all,

I'm a newbie in using Linux, and i'm setting up a Debian on a old computer (PIII 500 Mhz).

I'd like to install a Linksys WMP54G (v.2) wireless card in order to acces my home network.

I read many how-to about install but i now have a problem.

I downloaded the windows drivers, and installed wireless-tool and ndiswrapper using 'apt-get'.

then I used the command:

ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5
ndiswrapper -l
ndiswrapper -m
==> i didn't get error message

then i wanted to start the ndiswrapper module:

modprobe ndiswrapper
==> modprobe: Can't locate ndiswrapper ....

Where can this error come from ?

thx for your help

i've never seen this problem. but here is something you can do.

try doing an "update-modules"
and then do a "depmod -a"

hopefully, this will inform the kernel that you have installed ndiswrapper and where to locate it. you can check

/lib/modules/<kernel ver>/modules.dep

and see if you find an entry for ndiswrapper.o in it. if you do, then the kernel knows where to find the module and in theory should be able to load it when doing a modprobe. if it is not there, well then i'm not sure what to tell you.

but you can tell us what kernel version you are using. for 2.6 kernels, i heard that there is some sort of problem with ndiswrapper.ko module and it has to be moved to another location in the modules dir inorder for it to be located properly. but i don't know the specifics b/c i use a 2.4 kernel.

hope some of this helps

Wink

Thx for your reply

I found why modprobe can't find the ndiswrapper module.

I used th ndiswrapper for kernel 2.6 as I ran a 2.4

Now it runs well. Next step is configure the wlan
