Peer-to-Peer Wireless between Laptop & Zaurus

I'm trying to set up a peer-to-peer wireless network between a laptop running linux 2.4.20 and a zaurus. I've got both wireless cards configured (pcmcia recognizes them), so that in theory, changing a line in wireless.opts on each machine to indicate "Ad-Hoc" mode should do the trick to getting them to talk to eachother (or so I've read), but so far no luck. Has anyone else gotten a laptop and zaurus to connect this way?

I am about to try in the coming weeks. Do you have ip addresses set up for both? Can you ping between them?

I downloaded smbmount from killefiz.de so I could use samba to make the two communicate. I haven't set it up yet but will get back to you if it works..

ok, i got it figured out. so it turns out instead of hacking apart all the different linux configuration files in /etc/pcmcia there's a wireless manager in the settings menu on the zaurus that handles everything in gui form, and all you have to do is name the subnet, set it to ad-hoc mode, and set the channel. obviously, the subnet and the channel number should match those of the other machine(s) in your subnet.
