I have an Orinoco silver card, but can't get it working. I'm running rh9, kernel 2.4.20-8.
lsmod says that modules orinoco_cs, orinoco and hermes are installed.
But when I try to activate eth1, I get " orinoco_cs device does not seem to be present, initialization delayed". The hardware box says I have "Lucent orinoco and Prism II-bas" card.
My computer is a Dell latitude C400 laptop.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
i feel your pain, I have (kinda) similar problems with my mandrake 9.1 machine and my orinoco silver card. What does your system tell you when you attemp to pass parameteres with iwconfig? Does iwconfig recognise any wireless extensions?
Hello!
I have been working on wireless networking in Linux for a short while. The onee distribution thaat gave me the most paain was Redhat 9.0, which I purchased for $34.99 with a GREAT book called, "Redhat Linux 9 Bible," by Christopher Negus. As helpful as the book is, I was unable to get the wireless card (Orinoco Gold) to work. However, I turned to Mandrake 9.1 and had flawless success with VERY minimal configuration. I have seen many discussions on this site regarding rh9 and Orinoco cards. Most all of them end in no resolution. Unless you really want rh9 (it is a great distribution and I like it, except for the Orinoco issues), give Mandrake 9.1 a try. It is the distribution I am using to post this reply with an Orinoco Gold card accessing a college wireless LAN. Good luck in your efforts!
