Nokia CDMA 1xRTT 3G Packet Data Modem

This post should be a usefull resource for people trying to use their mobile celular phones as modems. I'll appreciate if anybody has achieved this to conect to their ISP and browse the internet by using it's mobile phone as a modem, to tell me their running kernel, log messages, linux distro and anything that helps

I am using (K)ubuntu 5.10 Breezy, and as soon as I plugged the mobile phone I got it detected as a modem (I don't own the phone, I went to the mall and tested it)

This is what /var/log/messages reported:
Nov 3 15:47:54 localhost kernel: [4294895.433000] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
Nov 3 15:47:55 localhost kernel: [4294896.554000] cdc_acm 2-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
Nov 3 15:47:55 localhost kernel: [4294896.559000] usbcore: registered new driver cdc_acm
Nov 3 15:47:55 localhost kernel: [4294896.559000] drivers/usb/class/cdc-acm.c: v0.23:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN adapters
Nov 3 15:47:55 localhost usb.agent[7477]: cdc-acm: loaded successfully

I go the phone working at /dev/ttyACM0

I also have a sl-modem-daemon on this computer, so all that I did was remove the symbolic link at /dev/modem and I made it point to /dev/ttyACM0

I went to kppp, configured Nokia as the modem, and entered the username, password and ISP phone. The 'lady' there (not nice for sales) gaved me some ISP info, by the poor help she provided me through the whole process, I am not entirely sure that it was correct but I believe it is.

THe first problems started when I clicked on 'query modem', only ATZ 3 responded, by returning 'Nokia xxxx' as a string, (were xxxx is the phone model number).

Anyway, I started dialing, and the phone actually started dialing #777 (Alegro, Ecuador)

This is what I got in the logs

xATZx
OK
ATM1L1x
OK
ATDT#777x
NO CARRIER

The phone called #777, and as soon as it finished dialed, I got an error in spanish similar to this "Connection couldn't be stablished"

I'll appreciate any ideas as this service costs $29.99 per month, it's 2x faster than dail-up, and it includes 100 hours per month, enough for the 2 hours that I'll be using this at my house during the nights.

Thanks in advance, I'm really bored with using dial-up
