No Wireless networking after latest kernel update

Hello,

I have just ran a Yum update and the latest kernel headers for FC6 have been installed. I tried them out only to find that when using the new kernel, my wireless networking no longer works, the light on my wireless doesn't even come on.

When I run iwconfig eth1 I get the following warning:

Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 20.
Some things may be broken...

I sort of understand what it means but I have no idea how to proceed. Thankfully my wireless is still working on the previous kernel.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to sort this out?

Thanks very much.

Clearly the driver isn't part of the kernel and needs to be installed manually. Did you install this manually in the first place? Looks like you'll need to go and find the driver and re-install it.

Right I sorted it.

I installed the latest ndiswrapper and found that ndiswrapper -l said:
bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4312) present (alternate driver: bcm43xx-mac80211)
(without me having to go through the hassle of putting the Windows drivers through again)

In order to solve it I first unloaded the alternate driver it mentioned:
modprobe -rv bcm43xx-mac80211

Then I blacklisted that driver in /etc/modprobe.d

Instantly I found my wireless light came on at start up and all was well with the world.

I hope this helps someone else who might run into the same problem.
