no wireless connection after /etc/init.d/networking restart

hi

my notebook with Debian Lenny works via wireless with WPA2-PSK and it works well.
the problem is, if I'm doing:
Code:
 /etc/init.d/networking restart
then the wireless goes down and it won't go up.

my /etc/network/interfaces:
Code:
# Wireless
allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet static
address 192.168.0.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
   wpa-ssid myessid
   wpa-ap-scan 1
   wpa-scan-ssid 1
   wpa-proto RSN
   wpa-pairwise TKIP
   wpa-group TKIP
   wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
   wpa-psk myhexkey
I can restart the netbook and evrything is fine again, but this is not a solution.

Two questions for you.

1) Have you tried "auto" instead of "allow-hotplug"?
2) Could you post the output of the restart command so that we have something to work with? you may also have to post the tail of dmesg if there's anything additional there.

1.) I'm getting the same problem using "auto"
2.)
Code:
# /etc/init.d/networking restart

OK, I'm missing something here. Could you post your complete /etc/network/interfaces file? Also, is there anything at the end of syslog about it? I'm not so good with what logs what, so I may send you after a red herring on the logging issue.

Added:
I just ran a restart on mine, and the info in dmesg is pretty detailed. I didn't see anything on yours.

I'm still not sure I understand what's going on, but I'll make a (probably doomed) stab at it. It looks like you're trying to use two network interfaces to get to the internet through the gateway 192.168.0.1. I'm suspicious that the restart is falling over when it can't figure out whether to get a dhcp IP for your eth0 or to just use 192.168.0.2 for wlan0 and which one of those to use for the default route; or something worded entirely diffently that says essentially the same thing.

Do you have it configured this way so that you can choose whether to use a wired connection or a wireless connection? If so, then you may need to setup a script that changes or substitutes the proper interfaces file depending on what you want to connect to. There may be another way, but I'm not the guy to ask.
