No networks available in wicd-curses

Ok, so I run the following script as superuser:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
/sbin/ifconfig wlan0 down
echo "Shutting down wlan0..."
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 essid off
echo "Clearing essid..."
/usr/bin/wicd-curses
But then there's no available networks. I can connect fine in windows.

How do I get connected to the internet?

I have Slackware64 14 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T400. Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN.

I may be wrong, as I've not encountered this before, but think you turned off your wireless with the command

Code:
ifconfig wlan0 down
From the ifconfig man page:

Quote:
down This flag causes the driver for this interface to be shut down.
wicd is a connection manager, but it's not a device driver.

Try

Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up
and then restart/refresh wicd.

Thanks for the response.

Well, wicd-curses turns it back on by itself. But today it's working fine for some reason. I'd say it's maybe the access point, but then I would have seen other access points.

Glad it's working. Thanks for the tidbit about wicd! I'll have to take a look at that.

Are you sure that there are other access points within range? Wireless range is about 100 meters in ideal conditions.
