New to Linux and wifi doesn't detect automatically

Hello,

I have Ubuntu 7.1 and has configured my wireless access via the network settings gui. It works fine, however, I always have to go back into the gui and retype my WPA key and change the setting back to WPA2-PSK.

For some reason, it doesn't automatically connect when the machine restarts and it defaults to WPA-PSK. I always have to re-type the info before I get an IP and connect to the network.

My /etc/network/interfaces settings are:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth0

auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp
pre-up wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dwext -iath0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
post-down killall -q wpa_supplicant
wpa-psk "my encrypted equivalent key without quotes"
wpa-driver wext
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-proto WPA2
wpa-ssid "my ssid"

My /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=root
network={
ssid="My SSID"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="encrypted key without quotes"
}
INTERFACES="-iath0"
DRIVERS="Dwext"

Any insight will be appreciated.
