Network speed slows when using WPA_SUPPLICANT

Hi all,

Well, just as the title says. If I run my wireless network either with no encryption, or using WEP, then the throughput is what I would expect from the AP. i.e. >= 54Mb/s. But, when I enable WPA, and therefore need to use WPA_SUPPLICANT to associate, the throughput drops to 22Mb/s. Any one any ideas or pointers to see what is going on?

TIA

Using WPA causes overhead but not *that* much and AFAIK even though the box says "54Mb/s" it doesn't mean you get to use that. At least not unless you have an unobstructed line of sight to the AP and are well within range. Where does your "expected 54Mb/s" come from? A GUI saying it's that? 'iwlist bitrate'? Or objective throughput measurements across your LAN?
