Need Help with Linux Installation / Kismet Wireless / Sapphire GPS Mouse

Hi Guys,

I am having problems installing any distribution of Linux and getting it all to work together.

I have tried Mandrake 9.1 and I get Kernel opps errors when I exit after running GPSD.

I have tried Suse 8.2 and also get Kernel opps errors or my Numlock and Scrollock flash and the system hangs.

I have tried Redhat 8.0 and managed to install everything ok even the Sapphire GPS mouse on USB0 but then I cannot activate my wireless card and Kismet tells me that it won't work if the card is not activated! (install instructions from tipsybottle.com)

I have tried Redhat 9.0 and get the same kernel opps errors and
Numlock and Scrollock flash and the system hangs.

It looks like 2.4.18 kernel is the most stable with its Prolific 2303 USB Serial convertor driver, but has anyone any experience with a distro that works with Kismet, GPSD, GPSDrive and a Royaltek Sapphire USB GPS Mouse. I have downloaded and patched the orinoco drivers each time and also tried different pcmcia_cs from 3.2.0 to 3.2.5 to no avail.

Any disto suggestions or help appreciated ... Everything works fine on Windows XP, bit Linux seems to have the functionality in Kismet ... I was told Linux is getting easier but it doesn't seem that way to me at the moment ... maybe I could recompile the latest kernel with the old Prolific drivers?

System Info:

AJP2100 Laptop PII 366mhz & 384MB RAM - Lucent Tech Orinoco Gold eth1 (downgraded firmware to 6.x6) and IBM PCMCIA on eth0

Help me please I have spent a week compiling and installing Linux Distros and it is driving me crazy
