Need help troubleshooting broken network manager wireless
hi all,
i have a broken network manager setup on my ThinkPad R51. network manager has stopped reporting (via the notification panel in Gnome) any available connections. I have uninstalled and reinstalled network manager (complete removal etc) and manually started and restarted nm-applet. my ethernet network interface is working (how I can post this) I am at a complete loss as to how network manager is configured - ie its conf files - none I can see in etc: Code:
wparker@gecko:~ $ cd /etc/NetworkManager/ If I stop it (kill) it respawns. here are some of the basics - can someone please help me drill down on this - I have been tearing my hair out for a while now: Code:
lspci This is Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) 2.6.12-10-386 kernel wireless works at home for some reason I am trying to connect to any wireless connection but I cannot scan for them with network manager : wifi radar will see them and yet hangs when trying to get IP... I have uninstalled that. Will |
I have been reading about ieee80211 drivers and the Intel distro of the ipw2200 from source forge.
There are detailed instructions about removing my old ieee modules and the existing ipw ones and I am lost. Does anyone experienced with this think they can talk me through the steps to work out what is stuffing up my system? I ran the script that writes a log of iwconfig whenever the system tries to change the configuration, and it seems that by launching wifi radar I could trigger a response: Code:

Please help..
I don't know where to start now. I have tried reworking all my ieee and ipw modules and rebuilding with my good and a newly configured kernel and don't know where to begin to untangle the unknown ?? The command iwconfig yield nothing now and yet I have reinstalled it with package manager. Pointers to start the process most keenly sought from some benefactor. Will |
You can solve it removing all gnome setup dirs
The way I find to solve this problem in the past was removing .gnome* folders. Did you find a better solution. I've the problem again and don't want to remove all my setup.
