need help setting up my dell 1370 wireless card....with ndiswrapper
i am trying to use ndiswrapper to set up my wireless card but for some strange reason it's not working at all
i have a Dell inspiron 710m with a dell 1370 b/g wireless card... can someone help me here??? |
The installation instructions at the ndiswrapper wiki are really pretty good. Could you give us an idea of what you've tried and where it has gone wrong? It really is difficult to give a decent suggestion when all we have to go on is "it's not working at all".

Apple Powerbook G3 Laptop Fedora Core 4 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 (-ppc) Netgear WG511 v2 (made in China Marvell chipset) Me=(newbie) What I did: installed Fedora Core 4 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4-ppc downloaded ndiswrapper (tar.gz did not install just downloaded) ran yum update rebooted into kernel 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 created: ln -s /lib/modules/2.6.15-1.1833_FC4/build/linux-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4-ppc /usr/src/linux-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4-ppc installed ndiswrapper as per instructions went to the ndiswrapper directory and did make distclean then make install DO I HAVE TO RECOMPILE THE KERNEL???? here is where I believe the trouble begins. . . On the ndsiwrapper install site, it says to create a symbolic lync to the source code. On Fedora, I have not clue where it is. I have kernel-devel install as well as the source, but I guess I'm not qite sure where it is or how to symlink it. Anyway, when I follow the instructions on the ndiswrapper website, I always get the same errors. Dell inspiron 2200 wlan 1370 cant connect
I am having some serious issue with this not working. I have been trying to get it to connect all day, updated to core 7 from 6 (6 actually detected it,7 did not) rebuilt a driver with ndiswrapper, I see it in nettools, try to connect and nada. Under hardware, none of the settings are setup, irq etc... how can I figure out these settings?

ok, Im pretty well tired of this. A laptop that wont connect wirelessly is pretty useless. I even went back and reinstalled fedora6, as it saw the wireless interface on bootup, where 7 did not. I doesnt even look like it is getting any signal from the card, it wont detect my ssid or anything. Serves me right I guess for buying a dell pos.

FC7 uses an experimental Broadcom driver that is probably conflicting with NDISwrapper.

2Gnu is completely right. Fedora slipped a mickey to all Broadcom users with FC7 and the b43 driver. If you do some searching here there are several threads that describe how to blacklist the new driver (there are more than one module that needs to be blacklisted) and get ndiswrapper back to functioning. If you decide to try using b43, you need to install firmware, and it is NOT the same firmware as bcm43xx uses.

Not the bcm43xx firmware huh. Dang. I have tried several different tutorials, and so far none have worked. I appear to have the 4318 chipset, and after I looked at linuxwireless, said had severe power transmissions issues, it said use the b43 driver. Not real helpful there I guess. I will look around and try a few more things and hopefully get it going. :scratch:
