ndiswrapper working but...

I recently installed fc4 and installed ndiswrapper with a broadcom driver(compaq r3000). Everything was working for about 24 hours. I tried connecting this morning and it didn't want to connect to the access point.

When I activate wlan0 it gives
Code:
Error: Unrocognized wireless request "Mb/s"
then it will hang on
Code:
Determining IP information for wlan0...
and then fail.

I know it can see the access point becuase my iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and correct MAC address for the access point. I'm stumped.

Can anyone help? I've already re-installed ndiswrapper and that didn't work and I just re-installed the whole fc4 and started from scratch will still no success.

Do you use dhcp or static IPs? Does 'ifconfig' show anything?

I use dhcp. I also tried static but to avail. I know the dhcp works on the ap because it's working for my windows install... thats how I'm online right now.

ifconfig just shows my ethernet stuff... eth0

Try dhcpcd -d wlan0 and see if anything from dhcpcd gets logged.

Ok so I think I've narrowed it down to ndiswrapper not working correctly. I was using 1.3rc so I uninstalled and installed 1.2 instead. Still same problem. ndiswrapper just doesn't seem to want to set the bit rate. Right when I give...

root@localhost# iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M

I get the error message in /var/log/messages...

Sep 8 22:20:15 localhost kernel: ndiswrapper (iw_set_bitrate:480): setting bit rate failed (C00000BB)

I'm still not sure as to what's going on, I'll bust out a sniffer tomorrow to see if it's actually sending dhcp requests and if so, we'll see if the ap is responding.

What if you skip that step? (Setting bitrate) I've never done it on my wireless card.

if I don't set the bitrate it defaults to "auto" and as soon as I do a "ifup wlan0" it tries to determan/set the bit rate and fails again. I'm going to look into using different drivers when I get home tonight. Maybe that might help.

I checked out the traffic with another wireless laptop to see that my laptop was sending out DHCP requests and the ap was sending back offers. My laptop just wasn't taking them for some reason.

I went to a coffee shop and connected right up with no problems. So my ap(my apartments ap) is being funny. I need to reset the bugger but I don't own it... I guess I'll have to wait for them to reset it or a power bump... Until then
