ndiswrapper + wireless pci card = not working
 

I'm new to Gentoo and have just installed it for the first time. I use a D-Link DWL-520 wireless network card to connect my workstation to the internet. Everything works fine when I'm on windows (like right now) which I have configured with my dual boot. I'm using ndiswrapper to use the windows drivers for my card with the following procedure:

1) copy drivers from windows partition to gentoo partition
2) install them using ndiswrapper -i
3) ndiswrapper -m
4) modprobe
5) dmesg | tail

Everything seems to work fine (with the exception of a couple WARNINGs about .exe and .dll files missing when I install the drivers) except when I use dmesg it doesn't find my wireless access point. I try iwlist scan, but it says that the operation is not supported. I'm fairly certain I'm using the right drivers (I've tried all the ones from D-Link) since it says hardware present under ndiswrapper -l and they work for windows.

The one odd thing though is that everything online that I've seen deal with this has wlan0 and ndiswrapper -m adds an alias for wlan0, but under iwconfig I have no wlan0, only lo, eth0, and eth1. eth1 has the wireless options right now.

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Well, if you can configure and use eth1, I wouldn't worry about it.

Well it doesn't detect my wireless access point.
