Ndiswrapper on Dell 510m
 

All,

I would like to share the following thing.
I have installed ndiswrapper on my computer in order to be able to use my wireless card (Broadcom chipset).
When the PC is link to the power supply (not the battery), the command 'modprobe ndiswrapper' works fine.
When I am using the battery, many times the PC freezes.

Am I the only one having this feeling? Have you also experienced a similar problem?
Can you confirm and maybe explain how you have solved this?

s plugged in so it might be related.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue on my 600m - when the power pack is plugged in, ndiswrapper works fine. On battery power, the system freezes when modprobe calls ndiswrapper.

Which driver are you guys using? A better question is, where did you get it from?

wined my recovering cd to get the wireless driver. So i know it's the correct one.

Like the signature. I should've put the question a little better. I used the driver that came with my card however it did exactly the same thing when I modprobed and drove me crazy. Then I downloaded the driver listed at the ndiswrapper card list and it worked straight away. Just a suggestion.

This seems to be BIOS bug.

I do have a fix! Or a work around, at least on my machine. If I set the BIOS POST to "thorough" instead of "minimal", everything works great. I have had no lockups with ndiswrapper since I've made this change after many many reboots. My theory is that the thorough POST probes (and sets) a register that is left in an unknown state otherwise.
