ndiswrapper installation error: can't find kernel sources

Hi,

I am a first time Linux (Suse 10.0) user trying hard to get over the learning curve. I want to install ndiswrapper. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Downloaded the latest version from: sourceforge.net.
2. Unzipped it.
3. Switch to root using the su - command.
4. Navigated to the unzipped ndiswrapper folder.
5. Typed "make install".

Here is the error I get:
Can't find kernel sources in /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.8-default/build; give the path to kernel sources with KSRC=<path> argument to make...

As a preinstallation procedure, I searched for kernel-source and made sure that kernel-source is installed (whatever that means).

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks a lot.

DS

Double check your kernel version number. "uname -r" and see if
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/build exists. The build subdirectory is a link to the kernel headers under /usr/src/.
It is possible that the two versions don't match.

As a fallback, there is a ndiswrapper package for SuSE 10. It might be recent enough for you.

Still having trouble

Hi,

This is what I see:

Under "/lib/modules/2.6.13-15.8-default/build", there is one file named "Module.symvers" and nothing else.

Under "/usr/src" I see 7 directories, i.e. linux, linux-2.6.13-15,linux-2.6.13-15.8-obj, linux-2.6.13-15-obj, linux-obj, packages, and kernel-modules.

Does this help? I hope somebody can help me with this. I want to install ndiswrapper on my system.

Thanks again,

DS

You didn't indicate what the result of "uname -r" is.
On my system:
> cd /lib/modules/`uname -r`
> ls
build kernel modules.alias modules.dep modules.inputmap modules.ofmap modules.seriomap modules.usbmap
extra misc modules.ccwmap modules.ieee1394map modules.isapnpmap modules.pcimap modules.symbols source
> ls -l
total 1183
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 45 2006-02-26 21:57 build -> /usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.8-obj/x86_64/default
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2656 2006-02-26 21:57 extra

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2006-02-26 21:57 source -> /usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.8

Given the problems you are having, why not install the ndiswrapper rpm package?
