My wireless is disabled whether or not I turn my switch on or off
 
I have a Sony vaio VGN-N220E with Ubuntu 10.10

I can't connect or even see wireless networks because my wireless I disabled
Wired connections work fine but I don't always have access to a wired connection

Please help me with my problem

According to this manual page for your computer (see page 13), there is a switch to turn on your wireless. Have you tried this?

Yes I have and it doesn't make a difference

I tried these commands so far:

rfkill block wifi
rfkill unblock wifi
rfkill unblock all

so far no results
