Marvell Libertas on AMD 64

Hello everyone,

I recently built a new machine, now with a dual core Athlon 64 processor. Everything's been working alright so far, but I'm having issues with wireless.

My card's chipset is Marvell 88w8335 (Libertas), and when I was on my 32-bit Intel machine, I used ndiswrapper along with the mrv8335 driver to get wireless working. However, this solution will no longer work as mrv8335 is a 32-bit driver and I'm using a 64-bit kernel.

I noticed in the Changelog and the configuration for kernel 2.6.22 that there is a Libertas module now; however, when I build it into the kernel or load it as a module, nothing changes in the ifconfig -a output. Has anyone had any experience getting this native module to work with their card?

By the way, I'm running Arch Linux (x86_64) with Linux 2.6.22.1.

I'm sure the suggestion "use a 32 bit distro" will come up, so before anyone offers that solution, I just want to say I'd really rather avoid it. I bought 64-bit hardware for a reason, after all. I'd rather write my own kernel module to get wireless working in a 64-bit environment than use a 32-bit distro! =D

Thanks,
Rob

Maybe you can dig up a 64-bit MS Windows driver to use with ndiswrapper.

I looked for one, but to no avail. If anyone's managed to find one, that'd also be a great solution.

Update:

Well, after carefully reading the kernel configuration, I noticed LIBERTAS is a kernel module library for Libertas chipsets, and USB8838 is a kernel module driver making use of the libertas module. That's the bad news. The good news is, now that there's a library written for Libertas chipsets, I should be able to write my own without *too* much trouble.
