Mandriva wireless works on one network but not another

Hello, Newbie (sort of)here!

I have a Dell C640 (courtesy of Freecycle), plenty of RAM, ethernet, wireless etc. I fitted a brand new HD and loaded Mandriva 2007. Works beautifully and the 3D desktop is very impressive to show to colleagues who spout on and on about vista ;-)

Everything worked straight away but being a newbie I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Suse but came back to (a clean install) Mandriva. I also have an iBook G4 and both machines are happy on my home network via wireless or via rj45.

OK, so I come over to my partner's for a few days (she uses the Dark Side) but with a wireless router and my Mac works just fine. The Mandriva machine just cannot see the wireless :-(

I've tried allsorts - even switched off the security completely - nothing. The Mac sees nieghbours networks (as do *both* machines at home) but the Linux sees nothing

What gives? As Spock would say "It's just not logical, Captain"

TIA

Ian

If wireless works on one network and not another then WEP, WAP would be a first suspect. Also change the SSID that you are trying to hook to. Scan for SSID if it being broadcasted, if not ask for the name of it. Wireless takes a bit of configuration.
