Linuxant Driver Not Working on FC6

Hey folks...

I'm trying to get my Linksys WMP54g (rt2500 chipset) pci wireless nic to work on Fedora Core 6 but am not having much luck.

Initially I installed FC6 on a smaller drive (to test out before I decided to dump XP) and was able to get my nic to work using the Linuxant driver solution. But now that I've moved to a larger drive and performed a clean install their site tells me I'm running a 4kb version of the kernel and their driver won't work.

I've downloaded their 'patch' and the 16kb version of the 2.6 kernel but haven't a clue as to how to apply these solutions, What's more.. I can't understand why I was able to get Linuxant's driver to work with my previous install and not my current. I didn't select any different options the second time around.

Can anyone help?

You don't need the patch, just install the 16k kernel you downloaded, as root try from where the kernel rpm package is located typing something like;

rpm -ivh kernel*.rpm

Then reboot the system with this new kernel.

I tried it and Linux said that the version of the kernel I had installed was newer (than the one I was attempting to load).

The file I downloaded from Linuxant was 'kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.stk16.i686.rpm'

If Linuxant doesn't maintain a 16kb version of the kernel I'm running does anyone have any suggestions where I could get one? Keeping in mind I'm a novice here.. would be best if it were an rpm file

Thanks for all of your help

Um, okay.. so no offense.. but I guess what you're telling me is there's no easy way to fix this problem.. or at least not until someone posts a 16kb rpm'd verion of my kernel

No not at all, You need to download, extract and prep the kernel source. Make one change in the kernel configuration file and build/install your custom kernel. The steps are outlined in my post (#11 of the thread). The change you need to make is found in the Kernel Hacking section while using the "make menuconfig" command.
