Question LinkSys WMP54GS (Broadcom) befriend Slackware 8.1

I just bought a LinkSys wireless network, with the WMP54GS (Broadcom) wireless PCI cards (and Speedboost). How do I get them into my Slackware 8.1 kernel 2.6.4 distribution? I want to use this particular distribution of Slackware because Mozilla supports both Hebrew and Russian out of the box. My main interests are reading Hebrew-language and Russian-language Internet magazines.

Hi and welcome to LQ You'll need a package called Ndiswrapper to use the card under Linux. The driver you'll need is from ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/WMP54GS_20050406.exe

The install instructions are at http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/j...,installation/

Question Can't Find SourceDisksFiles

When I invoke "wireless.ndiswrapper -i wireless.wmp54gs_20050406.exe" I am barfed at with
"couldn't find SourceDisksFiles section - continuing anyway..." and
"couldn't get manufacturer section - installation may be incomplete"

When I do a "wireless.ndiswrapper -l" I get
"wireless.wmp54gs_20050406.exe : invalid driver !"

Help! What is going on? Why is the driver "invalid"?

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/j...,installation/ are the installation instructions. wireless.ndiswarapper is not a command listed in the instructions.

Because this is an exe file rather than a set of files, you will probably need to use cabextract to break that one file into it's component parts.

(1) I was able to use "unzip" to break apart the wmp54gs_20050406.exe file

(2) I was able to install the approriate driver files in /etc/ndiswrapper

(3) I wasn't able to "modprobe" anything successfully.

Where do I go from here?

Before you modprobe, make sure you do a ndiswrapper -m to set up the aliases. Then it should work.
