kwlan very slow and resource intensive after activating roaming profiles for wpa_supp

Hey all, I installed wpa_supplicant to and am using it to configure my wireless, I have it all set up with wpa-roam, the thing is now kwlan is slow painfully slow when trying to use it, the main reason I want to use the gui app is only for when I want to connect to open hotspots, from what I've read and experienced you need to manually switch to an open network and a GUI front end will make that easier. Just wondering if anyone has any idea why this slow down is occuring.
