Happy that kismet supports ipw2100 now, so I downloaded the newest stable source and compiled it ... but when I try and start it I get ...

I tryed to "restart" my wireless card by doing ifconfig eth1 down, but I am not sure what they
mean by "manually restarting" the card.

I think you are running kismet in a directory that the user you specified in the config file doesn't have permission to write to.

Kismet.Conf

Hey kcorupe can you post your kismet.conf file, am also having issues getting kismet to work on my Dell Inspiron with my ipw2100 card (Intel Pro/Wireless 2100) Card, The Error am getting is "FATAL: Unknown capture source type 'ipw2100' in source 'ipw2100,eth1,ipw2100,10'." Maybe we can work together to get this problem solved.

Thanks

I want to know if I can use a 3Com 3CRDAG675 or a Trendnet TEW228PI with Linux Fedora; I've heard that due to the chipset that they use (well the one from 3Com, 'cause I don't know which one does it use), they doesn't work very well on Linux. Plz, my job depends on that, so if anyone can help me, I'll really apreciete it

I forgot to ask, if I can use those cards (3Com #CRDAG675 or Trendnet TEW228PI) in monitor mode. I know this may sound like an obvious question, but I'm a little noob in this wireless linux hacking, once again, I'll really apreciate any help.

Yeah i had the same problem 20 minutes ago, which was about 15 minutes before i got kismet working

the chap that originally replied is right, you are simply starting the kismet server in a dir that when kismet drops user privilages it cant write the file, to test as root:

cd to some users dir: cd /home/$RandomUser
then run the kismet_server, worked for me

Unhappy

Hello,
first of all sorry for my poor english

I'm using an IPW2100 WLAN adapter and I can set the card to monitor mode. Ethereal and Airsnort seem to work.
But Kismet does great probs... I tried different kismet.conf entries - none worked! Can anyone post his (working) kismet.conf?
Is there anything else to do? how exaktly will kismet be started? just #: kismet ?

Thanks for your info in advance
