ipw2200 firmware problem

Hi all,

I`m using debian etch, so ipw2200 module loaded but
i got the following error.
Anyone have idea what can be the problem.

ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, git-1.0.8
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2005 Intel Corporation
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200: ipw-2.4-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:04.0 failed with error -5

Thanks in advance.

hi there,
could it be that you need a firmware for 2.6x kernel??
etch uses 2.6.X kernel, and you firmware version reports
Code:

ipw2200: ipw-2.4-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
maybe for 2.4.X series...

Hi all,

Debian etch, ipw2200 driver runs with the firmwarev2.4.
you can get the firmware driver from this address
http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php
open this file in the /lib/firmware directory, remove module ipw2200
and modprobe ipw2200 and it works.
Thanks

I have the same error while installing etch with a custom kernel 2.6.16.
I've setup the kernel to load ipw2200 and ieee8021.1 stack,
the firmware is in the /lib/firmware dir but still it keeps saying thats its unable to load the firmware.

Do i need to remove kernel support and build modules from source.. or should things work fine with only kernel support from 2.6.16 and firmware in the correct place?

i've got a 2915ABG card in the pointersystems M570AU laptop
i'm allready experienced with debian on desktp pc's and i'm trying to get everything to work on my new laptop now
any pointers are welcome

I'm glad i allready got my xorg to work with 1920*1200resolution on my ati x700 so far.. now i can relax and try and get the wifi to work.

Ok, i got it working using the kernel now,, well the card is initialized anyway.. so the kernel must be compiled with modules and not with built in.. ipw2200 and ieee.. stack firmware seems to be 2.4 version still

if anyone needs some info, just sent me a message, i'll try to help..
