Intel Wireless 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter -- Driverloader -- AP association Issue

lspci output entry for NIC:

02:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corp. PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

I'll try to be as clear as possble.

For those of you that are familiar with this WiFi NIC, Intel as of yet has not released native Linux drivers.

As a work around I am using Driverloader by linuxant.

I was able to install Driverloader and add the Windows driver successfully using its localhost:18020 interface.

ifconfig -a reveals a new network device.

eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:23:86:6B:99
inet addr:192.168.124.22 Bcast:192.168.124.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

Keep in mind the only reason it has an IP is because I manually set it in hopes of pinging the router. "ifconfig eth1 192.168.124.22"

iwconfig "wireless network interface" accepts the following commands:
essid, mode, and enc.

after setting the essid, and mode (i removed encryption for testing purposes)
I have a iwconfig eth1 of :

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"obscured for privacy (its my address)" Nickname:"unknown"
Mode:Managed Bit Rate=11Mb/s
RTS thr=1600 B Fragment thr=2344 B
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:1/1 Signal level:-42 dBm Noise level:-200 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I should see Frequency and an AP MAC address among other things in the iwconfig if i were associated.

However the commands "channel" and "freq" among a few others like "commit" are not supported.

I get the following response when triyng to set the channel or frequency:

Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Operation not supported.

So with "iwlist scanning" I am able to see my AP (Channel 1):

Cell 01 - Address: <obscured for privacy>
ESSID:"obscured for privacy"
Mode:Managed
Frequency:2.412GHz
Quality:1/1 Signal level:-227 dBm Noise level:-200 dBm
Encryption key:off
Bit Rate:1Mb/s
Bit Rate:2Mb/s
Bit Rate:5.5Mb/s
Bit Rate:11Mb/s
Bit Rate:22Mb/s

I've tried 3 different Windows NIC drivers in hopes of opening up the channel function to no avail.

Anyone get this NIC to work with driverloader?

I can't help you, but I can guide you do some folks who may.

It's a forum for the compaq x1000 laptop, which comes standard with Dell truemobile 2100, they have some helpful threads in the linux subforum.

thanks

um.. haven't had much of a chance to look into the site, I'm still hopeing/praying/waiting for the native drivers to be released.

Nonetheless I still appreciate you guidance.

Peace/Happy Holidays/Kuanza/Hanukah/whatever.
