Intel Centrino 2200BG in Fedora Core 1, Help needed!

Hi,

Just installed FC1 on my Acer Travelmate3002WTMi laptop. The laptop has centrino, I've got my dual booting working with GRUB.

So this is my problem:

I can't get centrino wireless working, I have downloaded IPW2200, and tried to run make, but it just spews out a lot of C errors and then says
"Leaving directory /blah/blah/blah" (Sorry, cant remember the dir exactly, im using windows off the same box)
Then it says:
"make: *** [module] Error 2"

and stops the make. I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I'm running a 2.4 kernel and ipw2200 is designed for 2.6, so I got the 2.4 patch for it, tried that and still had no luck getting it to work. I tried updating my kernel, but when I try to boot into the new 2.6 kernel, it hangs at "Unpacking Linux ... Ok Booting Kernel", then stays there, I tried leaving it, but after two hours nothing had happened.

I tried using ndiswrapper, but make gave the same errors. According to the ndiswrapper wiki, it's because the version of gcc I'm using to make ndiswrapper (and I guess it applies to ipw2200 also) is different to the version that was used to compile my kernel. But I can't compile my kernel to make the gcc version the same because of the problems i've been having.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the newer 2915ABG working in FC4, If it doesn't result in alot of difficulty you may find more luck with a newer Core perhaps 3 or 4 (4 would be better because of the newer kernel). And obviously you have found the sourceforge project dealing with these wireless cards which is a great resource to setting these things up. I guess mostly I can just suggest the newer core, because there is the confidence that you will be able to get it working there and it will also use Xorg which is side benefit to moving to a newer FC, as well I believe there is better ACPI support.

when you install FC4 ....type the word garbage in when you get to the prompt....it will error...then type linux install. (some problem with the initial installer and Pentium 4's)

Cheers,

DH
