When I try to connect to my 802.11b router with my 4965 AGN, all the computers that are connected to it are disconnected and I'm unable to connect. However, when I try to connect to my school's WiFi which is 11g I have no problems. Also, if I use ndiswrapper with an old version of the 4965 AGN XP driver I'm able to connect to my 11b network.

I have this same problem on any distro, but I don't have it on XP or Vista. I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this like forcing the modulation of wlan0. However, "iwconfig wlan0 modu 11b" and even "modu auto" just output a generic error.

You might post the output of iwconfig when you're trying to connect to your 11b network. It would help us spot stuff. A couple other things to consider:

- Is the 11b router broadcasting its SSID? Sometimes that makes a difference.
- You might try manually setting your rate: iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M

Besides all that, I figured out what the problem was. I had to disable pbss in my router's hidden settings page. For some reason using the Linux Intel 4965 AGN drivers while trying to connect or send out a probe request to my 2wire router (and my neighbors) caused the router to crash. So I guess the real problem were faulty drivers from Intel.

Wow. I've been using iwconfig for years and had never run across that option. My experience is that the wireless card can usually figure it out on its own without being configured.
