installing prism2 usb driver
hello,
I'm a linux user but I'm not so good whit networking and I need some help with the wireless usb adapter from sitecom.
I installed everything as described in de manual on the sitecom pages.
they say to use the prism2 driver.
these are the steps I took till now, I'll describe them to you so that somebody
perhaps can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
at first I install the source code from my kernel and I recompiled it again
to have a fresh start. I'm using RH 8.0
I then installed the rpm package of the wlan driver, I then run-ed the ./Configuration (is included in the driver) script to preconfigure the driver (I selected usb only)
I then edited the /etc/modules.conf file
--->alias wlan0 prism2_usb
next I edited the /etc/init.d/wlan file
modprobe prism2_usb
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=linux_wlan authtype=opensystem
exit 0
chmod 755 /etc/init.d/wlan
to start the driver on boot
cd /etc/rc3.d
ls *network* (Verify the "network" filename)
ln -s ../init.d/wlan S09wlan
cd /etc/rc5.d
ln -s ../init.d/wlan S09wlan
the next step was, configuring the network. my router adress is
192.168.2.1 so I thing this information below is correct.
I CREATED a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0
My router is config. as dhcp, but when I put in the variable
BOOTPROTO=dhcp then I get a network fail on startup
when I define a static ip adress everything "seems fine"
BROADCAST=192.168.2.255
IPADDR=192.168.2.110
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.2.0
ONBOOT=yes
NOW THE TESTING FASE
When I restart my network /ets/init.d/wlan and /etc/init.d/network restart
I get no errors everything seems fine but I can not connect to or view
the web page in my router (MSG connection refused by the browser)
I can ping my router and I get a normal reply but I can not ping my localhost???
And I can not see nor ping my linux system from an other host in the network?
can someone give me some help please??? Things I overlooked??
Things I forgot?
