Well first off...It only mentions about upgrading an existing source directory...then how to I get to the Root ...do I log in as root? ...then where do I enter these commands...is it in the terminal???

When you are upgrading an already existing source-directory do

make distclean

before compiling the sources.

As root run

make

and then

make install

I just finished installing the SUSE software today, and this is my first Linux experience...so i am not too knowledgable as far as navigating

It is only "make distclean" that needs to be run to clean up the source tree if you are upgrading.

Yes. just open up a terminal. You can switch to root by entering "su -" then entering your root password.

I opened a terminal
SU- {enter}

put in my password..now it shows:
Linux:- #
I entered: Make distclean...then got "no rule to make target distclean" Stop.

I got similar responses to the other commands

You will need to cd to the directory where the ndiswrapper source is:
cd /path/to/ndiswrapper-1.0

I guess I was ahead of myself with those previous questions, but I am still stuck. I do not know how to extract the files from the cd...I don't even know what the drive is labeled.. I think it is /dev/cdrecorder

I put an unextracted copy onto my cd

I know this should be simpler, but I have been an XP user for 4 years...trying to break free from the chains

OKay
I was able to get to the cd drive...I ran the: tar zxvf ndiswrapper-1.1.tar.gz
as it was extracting it said:
ndiswrapper-1.1/debian/xxxx(file): Cannot open: no such directory

It did that for all the files in the ndiswrapper

I attempted to cd to the ndis directory anyway, but it did not exist...
I tried it twice with two versions, got the same result

You won't be able to write to the cd drive like that. You'll need to extract it into another location like /usr/local/src/
