Unfortunately, I didn't find anything with my searching. There are a couple of people who have claimed success by moving back to the 0.4 version of ndiswrapper that comes with Mandrake. Other than that, it seems that either ndiswrapper works immediately or it doesn't work at all. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Maybe it's time to try Linuxant. If your time is worth anything, you're already into it for more than the $30 or whatever they charge for their license. The trial is free.

Yes that is an option I have considered. But, this is about 3/5 of what it would cost to buy a new wireless that works with the wlan. So if all else fails I will be buying a new card and not a linksys one but one that supports linux. BTW how do you unistall ndiswrapper.8? If I am going to go back to .4, although if I remember right it never worked with the "make install".
Hell-shooter here is the page that contains the irc link:
Oh I would like to clarify my question about uninstalling ndiswrapper .8 I have a module running (ndiswrapper) an alias in modprobe.config (for the wlan0) and a driver loaded into ndiswrapper. I know how to unload the driver- ndiswrapper -e. How do I accomplish the other tasks? Thanks.
Do a search with the search tool, search in '/' and write ndiswrapper..
You can find in this topic or in my other topic a messeges on this subject from me and Hangdog42..
If you get seccuss in something..
please tell me here in the forum or in my icq: 176543492 or 644387
Thanks.

And why you stopped to help me?
www.linuxant.com offers a commercially licensed way to use Windows drivers in a Linux world. Some folks have had great success with it.
As to my helping, I gave it my best shot. I've never used ndiswrapper, nor did I have anything of value to add to the thread after a certain point. I wish I did.
Either find the Mandrake ndiswrapper RPM or re-install the kernel source code RPM. If you are talking about your custom 2.6.6 kernel (the non-Mandrake one) then don't worry about it.
That is why I suggested installing the entire kernel source. I'm guessing that Mandrake has included that bit in the RPM. However, if I remember correctly, that was for a 2.6.3 kernel and your using a 2.6.6 kernel. If thats right, then it doesn't matter if the files are missing from the 2.6.3 source.
I am sorry for not being very sophisticated in Linux. But I would appreciate it if someone could give me a couple of steps to unistall version .8 ndiswrapper so I can try .04. I can unload the driver. But I believe I want to kill the module and maybe even delete some files before I try to install version .4 ndiswrapper? And do I need to worry about the alias that was created in modprobe.config, such as remove that too? How is it best to do all this?
The biggest part to remove is your kernel module (check in lib/modules/kernelversion). And yes, you should either delete or comment out the modules.conf line . Any text editor will do the trick. You can use the find command to find all the locations for ndiswrapper files. Something like find / -iname ndiswrapper* ought to do the trick (run it as su though).
