I Need a Good Cheap Compatible WiFi for Fedora
 

Hi, i came across these forums while trying to find compatibilty for wireless network cards. Im going off to college in a few weeks and i need to find a good cheap wireless network card that is compatible with the Fedora Core running a KDE environment. I am trying to find something that runs natively (hopefully plug-n-play). I tried a DLink DWL-G650 and it didn't work at all, and the drivers i find don't look too promising. I borrowed a friends linksys i believe it was one time and it worked no hassles and no configuration. I am running linux on a IBM Thinkpad 600x. So if anyone could be of any help to me it would be more than appreciated. Thank you.

I'd definately go with the Enterasys Roamabout. I got mine for $28AUD.

do either or both of them work plug and play, im familiar with linux, but i don't know all the inner workings just yet

Yeah. The cisco card is auto-detected and uses drivers from the kernel tree.

You just have to use iwconfi and ifconfig (the normal command line tools) to set the network ID, WEP keys and bring the card up.

I have the NETGEAR MA311 PCI WiFi card in my computer and it was easily recognized in FC2 and funs beautifully. I haven't tried encryption yet, but I will do that soon. It is identified in FC2 as "WaveLan PCI 2.0" or something like that. 802.11b compliant. Enjoy.
