I cannot log in wireless networks wth my Intellinent 56 mb PCMCIA card

Hi,
My PCMCIA card recognizes and shows networks, but I cannot log in.
I'm using Kubuntu and my PCMCIA card is reconigzed as RaLiink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI(ra0).
I tried to log in uding DHCP without security keys at several public and friends' networks and allways get" connection failed" from the wlassistant.
From the console I got

Code:
$ iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

ra0       RT61 Wireless  ESSID:"makhtesh"  Nickname:""
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.462 GHz  Access Point: 00:0F:CB:FB:83:4A

          Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

$ ifconfig ra0
ra0       Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0E:2E:A3:71:49
          inet6 addr: fe80::20e:2eff:fea3:7149/64 Scope:Link

          RX bytes:847253 (827.3 KiB)  TX bytes:14720 (14.3 KiB)

Some hint?

Rgds,

Julian

Post contents of the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ra0
I am guessing essid is defined and this may be stopping the connection to others.

Hi Brian,

I cannot find such sysconfig directory in my Kubuntu. AFAIK I don't need ESSID to connect to a public network.

Sorry I was just going by the distro info under your name. Didn't catch the kunbuntu reference in the post. Do not know how unbuntu config work.

I think it could be this one /etc/network/interfaces
Here it is

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
address 127.0.0.1
netmask 255.0.0.0

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

auto eth2
iface eth2 inet dhcp

auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

iface ra0 inet dhcp

auto ra0
