Howto determine if wireless data-layer link is up

Hi all,

Does the signal information output from iwconfig imply that the data-level link is working? I'd like to know if the fact that iwconfig gives a signal quality means that the card is setup correctly and is capable of transmitting data. Iwspy <my wirelesscard> says that there are no statistics to monitor.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dan
