How to get on a 40 bit WEP encrypted wireless network with an Intersil Prism2 card?

I have an airport network encrypted with WEP 40-bit encryption. My two Windows-using roommates can get on it with no trouble. My boyfriend, however, is running Linux Mandrake with an Orinoco CS wireless card, and we can't seem to figure out how to give his machine enough information to get on the Internet. Using the config tool, we put our network name in as the ESSID, and the hex password in as the encryption ID, and though his computer can find the network then, no Internet. He seems to have no problem on public, unencrypted wireless. Any thoughts?

So put in the network name and encryption key, make sure he can get to machines that are local, ie. on the same network. Once that is OK, try adding a default route to the internet. I would do it by opening a terminal window, becoming root with "su" then typing "route add default gw YOUR-GATEWAY". (of course, put in the address of the router that connects to the internet, not "YOUR-GATEWAY".)

Next question - what is the address of the gateway? Ask a network admin. Or if you can get to a Windoze machine on the same network, try File / Run / winipcfg and look for the default gateway. I think the command is something like "ifconfig /all" for Doze 2000 but not certain.
