I believe most routers should be capable of getting 254 clients. No idea if there exists any that do less; basically a router can give 254 ip addresses (from .1 to .255; .0 is reserved) so that means that many clients. For more you need to segment the network with several routing devices (for example).

your forgetting that .1 is the router and .255 is the broadcast address so 252 clients in theory.

in reality the ammount of clients a router can support is limited to the processing power of that router. the linksys with stock firmware can handle about 15-20 wireless clients before it gets over worked. if you load it with openwrt or one of its varients (if its version 5 0r 6 id suggest dd-wrt versions 1-4 openwrt) you could get that number closer to 50. with off the shelf consumer routers getting more than that is a pipe dream. if you want/need 252 wireless clients go with corp. wifi router from some one like cisco.

The baddest wireless access units are linux boxes from a company called Bluesocket. They can be found here - http://bluesocket.com/ .

The entire unit is stripped down linux, with a web management frontend. They can support around 80-100 clients on the base units, more on upgraded ones. We used them at work for a project, and they were REALLY helpful with issues we came across.

The bad side is they are certainly not cheap. What they offer is worth the cost, but it isn't the kind of thing you could really do at home. It is north of $1000 to get even the base controller and AP. If you're thinking of an office setup, I would start and end my search with them.

Peace,
JimBass

Well I was thinking on a CISCO router but unfortunatelly the Church does not have to money for it. I wish it did 'cause it was another reference for me. I love CISCO routers cause they make the life easier. I exactly know what is going on in the background.
That is why I decided to buy Linksys 'cause it's got CISCO influance. (^_^)
