How can I view wireless APs and connect to one?

Once I have my wireless card all set up properly, how do I do a scan for wireless access points and then connect to one? thanks in advance

"iwlist scan" searches for access points. To connect set the essid and the key with iwconfig and then use a dhcpclient like dhcpcd to connect.
