I am running suSE 9.2 distro which was downloaded via the FTP site. Currently, I am trying to enable a LinkSys wireless WMP54G PCI NIC card. I want to accomplish this through the Ralink 2500 driver under development. I've loaded the modules but am having trouble with invoking "qmake," command, part of the Qt/X11 application development tool which I though was part of the suSE distribution. YAST indicates that QT3 is installed.
Note - I am not a programmer and am new to Linux. However, I am getting the hang of the make command for compiling.
Is anyone familiar with qmake as it relates to suSE? And, has anyone painlessly installed this card and the ralink2500 driver?
I'm getting good advice in bits and pieces from forums but need to but it all together. Help would be appreciated.
I'm not familiar with SuSE, but you might check if there's a Qt development package. Many distributions package the libraries and development files separately, and qmake would probably be with the development files..
I have a couple of Edimax EW-7128G cards that also uses the Ralink RT2500 chipset, and I got them installed and working on Slackware 10.1 and Xandros 3. As you probably know, Qt is only used for the configuration utility, and strictly speaking, you don't need the configuration utility. You can actually modify the driver-specific configuration file by hand. In fact, you don't even need the configuration file. If you don't use WPA, i.e. you're using WEP or no encryption, then you can do all the configuration you need through iwconfig. For example, I use no encryption on my wireless LAN, and once I had the driver installed, I was able to use Xandros's standard network configuration utility to set up my connection.
As a side note, I should mention that I didn't have much luck with the Ralink configuration utility. It consistently crashed when trying to view the wireless statistics. I also had some problems with kernel stability when I tried to use the driver configuration file.

Well, in both cases, the system automatically brings up the default network interface (ra0) and it connects to the wireless router without any problems. Why, what's your problem? Is the interface not coming up at all, or are you just not able to reach your access point?
AHHH suse
is it the personal edition as there isnt really many development stuff with the personal edition(as i found out) so i just installed red hat !
