help getting linux talking to my router (newbie)
Hello,
I've been using ubuntu for a few weeks now on my desktop and want to move it to my laptop, however I'm having problems with wireless networking. I have a toshiba tecra m2, the wireless chipset is an Intel 2100.
On starting ubuntu (the latest 606 version) it finds the card fine, it finds my SSID of my router fine and I can contact it (giving it a static ip lets me ping myself ok), and the details of it (iwconfig and the network details page via ubuntu) seem fine.
However, it cannot reach my router. I've tried assigning a static ip and putting the details of my router, but that doesn't do anything. I've also tried leaving it on DHCP and on calling 'ifup' it gets as far as doing a dhcp discovery but fails I think.
Everything else works fine (including wired ethernet) and I'm sure as far as I can see it is doing wireless ok, I just cannot make the switch from Windows until I can get wireless!
Anyone got any suggestions? I've tried various values with iwconfig but nothing seems to do much. On the network setup window, whilst it is activated the network status window always says 'disconnected'.
Thanks.
