having trouble with wireless USB adapter with Slackware 9.1

hello everyone!

i recently downloaded slackware 9.1 and had a friend come over and help me install it and walk me through the basics.
i am currently running:
-Intel CA810E motherboard
-Pentium 3 700mHz
-40 gig hard drive with a 30 gig partition running win 98se, an 8 gig partition for slackware 9.1 and 2 gig for swap in linux

i am having a problem setting up my wireless internet. my wireless access point is set upstairs (a linksys BEFW11S4-2.4 ghz-802.11b --- the comp is running win xp--works fine), and my USB adapter (Netgear MA101: it is revision B) in my room downstairs. i cant figure out how to configure my adapter in slackware. it works great in win 98se, but the device isnt even read in linux.

thanks for your help in advance!
