Having trouble setting up WPA support for rt2500-based card

Hi,

I've set up my Linksys WMP54G (with the rt2500 chipset) using Linuxant's DriverLoader (I am currently using the 30-day trial) on Ubuntu 6.06.1 i386.

wpa_supplicant is already installed, however I cannot set it up properly. DriverLoader insists on calling the card wlan0, whereas the system calls it ra0. I have activated the interface, and my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf contains the following uncommented lines:
Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

network {
   ssid="homenetwork"
   scan_ssid=1
   key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
   psk="mypassword"
}
However, it, quite simply, refuses to work. I'm not sure if the rt2500 is supported by wpa_supplicant, because the posters on the HCL were unsure... I have a feeling that it doesn't, because it did not work even when it was enabled. I can post the output if you want, but I might need to sanitize the hashes

I'd love to get my desktop onto my home network, and the only way I can accomplish this is by making it work with wpa_supplicant (or the other way around). Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance,

-jk

Why are you using that driver loader? Ubuntu kernels come with native support for the rt2500 chipset in a kernel module called rt2500. I use it and it works fine for me.

Really? So a simple 'modprobe rt2500' will work?

Come to think of it, I could always 'see' my WLAN, even before the driver loader... Rats. I read that I needed it, so I used it. Time to get rid of it

And any idea what's wrong with wpa_supplicant? Is my config file 'wrong', or is there a particular set of parameters I should feed it?

Note that when I tried starting it up with the 'rt2500' driver, it exited with an error message echoing that it did not support it.. Have you had any luck?

Ive got the same card and rt2500 from ubuntu kernel works for me, but I don't know what wpa_supplicant is. I just used wlassistant to connect, and didn't do any tampering with configs (well, I did actually but wlassistant was the only thing I could ever get to connect).

Aye, but wlassistant is a KDE app, and the only Gnome equivalent I know of is network-manager, so I'm going to try installing that now (with its dependencies) - maybe that'll help

If you have any other tips, please let me know. Cheers.

[edit] No luck:

RaLink rt2x00
Provider: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com

Driver: rt2x00

Status: Supports unencrypted and WEP networks when used with NetworkManager. While the driver supports WPA, it does not use Linux Wireless Extensions for WPA support, which is required for NetworkManager.
