Getting wireless to another building

I am trying to get a wireless network from one of our church buildings to another about 800' away. I have put up an outside antenna but I am only able to get front half of the building. I have been told to put an antenna on the other building with an access point. Is this the best solution? Do I attach the external antenna to the access point in place of it original antenna? Will the access point then transmit through the building?

You could always get a repeater set inside the building.

I don't intend to be uninformative but I have found a page with a lot of articles that, combined, should be able to guide you.

There is an article on how municipalities should be deploying city wide wireless networking, and there is a three part series on how to set up your own wireless network. There may be other useful articles at this web site. Please be sure to read about the security issues. There are several articles at that site pertaining to security.
