General wireless netwrok question.

I've been reading and searching but not able to find a clear answer on whether or not what I want will work. I'm expanding my home network, 2 pc's will be added shortly. I need to be able to connect 4 to the net on 2 IP's. The cable modem I've got has wireless built in and that's how I'm currently connected. I'm looking to take the wireless connection and connect that to a wired network. are wireless routers or access points able to use a wireless signal as uplink? could I use a wireless router to connect to the wireless already in the house and then take cat5 from that router to each of my pc's or would I need an access point to connect to a router or will either work?

Your best bet would be a PC with a wireless card for the uplink: perform routing with iptables to the wifi card from the wireless.

thanks for the reply. I was wanting to do this network with extra equipment because my linux box is an older pc that I'm doubtful that the usb ports work on. My network adapter is USB and I've tried for months to get it to work and tried usb thumb drives and the like and never got so much as a light from any of it to suggest that it was getting power(usb is enabled in bios).

anyway... the reply reminded me that there is a built in bridge in xp. got that set up and it appears to be working. sorta... My linux box is now comming up with the same IP as my windows box.
