LinuxQuestions.org - FC5 can't activate Intel Pro 2011 wlan card

Hi all

I just installed FC5 and just can't seem to get my Intel Pro 2011 wlan PC card to work.

0. My card is recognized in hardware. When i insert the card and perform dmesg, I get:

/sbin/lsmod shows the usual modules associated with this card, which worked seamlessly in FC4:

1. When I insert the card and run the Network Device Control app, it fails with the following message:

Determining IP information for eth1... failed; no link present. Check cable?

2. Running dmesg gives the following information:

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready

3. With kWifiManager (KDE) I am able to specify the ESSID and activate the card in the sense that the radio signal is detected and there is some indication of the signal strength. But I am not able to connect to the net with this.

Also, when this 'activation' is performed and I run the system's Network Device Control app as in Item #1, the signal is not recognized anymore.

4. I googled for errors on Intel Pro Wireless and got something about firmware etc for ipw2200. I didn't think all this was applicable to my primitive card yet I downloaded the firmware into /lib/firmware as the instructions said. I then performed the /sbin/modprobe for the module which went through but didn't help with connecting.

5. Strangely, there seems to be no /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts file. I remember having seen this in FC2 but I didn't check for this file in FC3 or FC4. Is this file no longer required?

Can anyone help me with this?
