Driver, Belkin F6D4050v2 USB Wireless Adapter cant be recognized(ubuntu 10.04

Yesterday I decided to install linux on my PC. I live in an apartment, my PC is in the bedroom, and my internet is only connectable via a wireless router to the cable modem in the living room. My PC has Win XP Pro, and Ubuntu 10.04 on it now. The router works with windows, but I have tried for hours yesterday and today to get it to work with Ubuntu 10.04... I hate windows and would prefer to use Linux, but to be honest I am sick of digging for answers to this problem. Can anyone help me get the Belkin F6D4050v2 USB adapter to work? I realize that on some of the sites its in the grey area. It's driver code is rt2870.inf. Also, I am having an issue with the preloaded softwares wanting to work, for instance ndiswrapper, and 1.9 took forever just to get working, and I am showing errors for others, even with the disk in, and running synaptic. I have tried a zillion things from a zillion different sources. If you can help I WOULD GREATLY appreciate it. Also, I am not a tech genius so jargon, and shit won't help. Note I cannot connect wired, unless I drag my PC into the living room. I can muti-task with my Macbook, and the PC, so I can work in realtime.

Other info
its in bus 001 Device 005

step1. figure out the chipset that uses that.
step2. assure that the appropriate driver is being used
step3. if its not working at this point, look at /var/log/messages and /var/log/dmesg to see if theres interesting log messages.

Do step 1 and then we can move forward...
