DLink Wireless Card not working on Ubuntu Linux "Hoary Hedgehog"
 

Hey guys. I installed Ubuntu Linux on my brother's computer so that I could run it as an SSH server for me in the background while he does stuff (Cause my computer likes Windows)... Well, my Dlink Wireless card isn't working. Its not getting detected. How can I make it work? The exact card is DLink DWL 520.

Wireless support in Linux is a bit of a pain, you need to jump through hoops. I would check out D-Link's web site on the very off chance they support Linux for a driver. If not look into ndswrapper.

ndiswrapper is the way to go. I've used it on a number of wireless cards now and it works sweet. Google for howto's there are a number out there.

Okay I think I'm about to get this. When I run modprobe for ndiswrapper, it says Any help here?

If you ndiswrapper -l does it list your card as present?

Wow Cambridge... That's where RuneScape is made. Cool to see someone from there... Anyway, somehow that little problem fixed itself on its own, when I uninstalled it then reinstalled. But yet, I am still having trouble. When I run "ndiswrapper -l", it lists the drivers as present, but not the hardware as present. Any idea what is wrong? I have tried using the drivers from the site and from the CD that came with my card but it will not work...

It showed me a site... http://www.oakcourt.dyndns.org/~andrew/dwl520e1.html ....taht told me how to do this, but the guide, I didn't understand how to configure the kernel. Where exactly do I find these menu stuff?

What part don't you understand? The author gives you a step instruction set. Just follow his steps.

you need to double check what chipset you have and download the "windows" drivers for it. ndiswrapper uses those drivers. it doesn't show the hardware as there when you run ndiswrapper -l because it is the wrong driver. also you might want to check out the ndiswrapper wiki pages for more setup instructions.
