DLink DWL-G630
I bought one of these silly cards (what did I know, it had a rebate!!). Now I'd like to get it to function (best laid plans of mice and men...). When doing "cardctl ident", it comes up:
info: "Marvell Semiconductor", "88W8310 802.11g Cardbus PC Card", "83", "01" manfid: 0x02df, 0x8310 Then I do "lspci -v" and get: 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Galileo Technology Ltd. D-Link DWLG630 AirPlus Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown Device 3b08 Flags... IRQ... Memory... Capabilities... The numbers for the PCI ID's are: 0x11ab, 0x1fa6 Subsystem 0x1186, 3b08. (I may have added some info to my local PCI database). Well... This goodie invokes hotplug and then emits the following to /var/log/messages: .../etc/hotplug/pci.agent: no modules for PCI slot 01:00.0 OK, so what driver do I need to hook up to this beast (does it exist??), and how do I hook it up (it is kinda wierd having a PCMCIA card think it is a PCI card!!). Clues appreciated. Thanks. |
I found no linux drivers. does not work on http://www.linuxant.com either.

i got one aswell i got mine working using the drivers off the cd with ndiswrapper hope that helps
also here is a list of dlink linux drivers http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.as...ral%20Wireless supported chipsets for ndiswrapper http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/s..._chipsets.html run lspci -v lspci -n the number you want is in bold letters in my example and look a the "PCI-ids (lspci -n)" collum and find your card. if its there it should work with ndiswrapper. then compile it and follow the directions and you should be good to go. # cardctl ident Socket 0: product info: "Marvell Semiconductor", "88W8300 802.11b Cardbus PC Card", "83", "01" manfid: 0x02df, 0x8300 function: 6 (network) # lspci -v 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell: Unknown device 1fa6 (rev 07) Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown device 3b08 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10 Memory at 10800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Memory at 10810000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 #lspci -n 02:00.0 Class 0200: 11ab:1fa6 (rev 07) |
Linux Newbie Wireless DL-g630
ok - so here I am several hours later and have decided to ask for directions anyhelp would be appreciated
herby were you ever able to get the 630 to work ? i am brand new to linux so i need pretty detailed instructions -- much obliged - on how to incorporate the driver/wrapper should i just buy another card/wireless system? i am about to get another machine - laptop so are there any that would make this easier or any router/card systems that readily support both linux and windows? thanks in advance for any help |
Well, I have had success (sort of). I initially tried DriverLoader (http://www.linuxant.com) and while it had a nice user interface, all it did was crash my laptop (Compaq Presario 1244). Then I went around and found 'ndiswrapper' (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/). I got an early version of the 'driver' and it worked quite well. I haven't gone to the latest version (1.0?) so my problem of keyboard failures when unplugging the card might be fixed. I just power on the computer, and it DOES work. I get a wireless interface and I'm able to connect to my access point. I was also able to connect to an Apple wireless access point, and another wireless access point as well. I haven't been able to use any password features (WEP, etc.), as I haven't studied the problems. The general story is:
Limnuxant driverloader: 0 NDIS Wrapper: 1 As I remember it I did a couple of scripts, but I don't have the laptop handy at the moment. I suppose when I upgrade to version 1.0, I'll send off another message. |
